I am searching for a (open source or freeware) backup software for windows XP from which I can backup my data which in Linux EXT3 file system and shared in Windows XP using samba. I specially need to take differential backups but as ext3 does not support "archive" bit so backup software should have something like "backup last <nn> days modified file".

If you are sharing the data via Samba, you can use any backup program and point it to the shared drive – then it should work just like any other drive on a windows system.

There are some programs out there that would allow you to access an ext3 file system natively, but if you are sharing them via samba, you can’t have the file system on the same computer running at the same time (unless you are using a virtualization package?).

Either way, doing it through any backup program (Syncback perhaps?) over Samba should work fine.

However, if you want to get ambitious, you could use a version of rsync for Windows (Maybe something like DeltaCopy), or install Cygwin and use Rsync from there.
